Our U.S. Offices
In November of 1985, Allen & Overy opened up its third overseas office in New York, following Dubai and Brussels. A small, but happy office, A&O's New York office compromised of two partners and one associate working in Rockefeller Center overlooking the ice rink, one of New York's famous winter attractions.
Allen & Overy became one of the first non-U.S. headquartered law firms to practice U.S. law outside the U.S. By starting a U.S. law practice, albeit a modest one initially, Allen & Overy took a major step towards becoming an international law firm. Having U.S. capability was also significant in moving the firm away from being solely English law practicing.
In July 2011, we opened our second office in the United States located at 1101 New York Avenue Washington, D.C 20005 with the addition of three new partners to bolster our U.S. Regulatory Practice. The office has steadily grown in strategic areas and now employees more than 30 attorneys.
The New York and Washington offices have grown to be the principal hub of Allen & Overy's Global U.S. practice with more than 160 of our U.S. lawyers based between the two offices. Led by some of the country's leading practitioners, our office has been providing U.S. legal advice to domestic and non-U.S. clients for over 25 years. We provide a broad range of sophisticated legal services, while being fully integrated within the Allen & Overy network to meet the global needs of our clients.
The U.S. offices provide comprehensive legal services to corporations, financial institutions and multilateral agencies. We offer a full range of specialty areas including antitrust, banking, capital markets, corporate/M&A, environmental, financial services regulatory, intellectual property, litigation, real estate, restructuring, and tax across a number of jurisdictions. Our Latin America practice and U.S. China group are also managed from the New York office. Both combine our broad sector knowledge, cultural familiarity and language skills to advise clients investing into and from Latin America and China.
