Our Hong Kong Office
In August 1988, Allen & Overy started in Hong Kong and since then our practice has expanded to become a major powerhouse of commercial legal advice for the region, a gateway for clients here to access the Allen & Overy global network. It may be a cliché to suggest that Hong Kong lies at a crossroads for international business, but it is nonetheless true and our office here is an extremely important piece of the Allen & Overy jigsaw across Asia Pacific, servicing clients and businesses around the region including South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and South East Asia.
The economic cycles tend to be more compressed here than elsewhere so the peaks and troughs can be more extreme and this means that as lawyers we have to be versatile, which is exciting and positive. This leads to the development of lawyers who are strong on the fundamentals of business and able to think on their feet and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
It also means an international outlook. By its very location, Hong Kong is an international business arena and our client base here reflects the global nature of modern business. Our clients correlate closely with those of our European and U.S. counterparts with the addition of our ever-deepening relationships with Chinese banks and businesses.
Our offices, taking up four floors of the Exchange Square III office complex, are ideally situated for travel, sightseeing, and of course, shopping! The Airport Express train leads you to the base of our building so trips to the airport for quick weekend getaways are convenient and quick. We are located in the middle of a shopping mecca, with the IFC shopping complex next door and Hong Kong's Central shopping district, the envy of the world's well-heeled. 10 minutes away is the world famous entertainment streets, Lan Kwai Fong. You will be staying in this area while working with us - close to the fun and close to work.
We will offer you a stimulating environment where work will be demanding yet enjoyable. Both our clients and lawyers at the firm have commented extensively on the friendly yet professional interactions they have had with us. We also recognize that there is life beyond the office and work hard to ensure that our lawyers and staff have the opportunity to pursue their interests and develop their skills both inside and outside of work. The Social Committee frequently plan a variety of events including movie nights, cooking classes, art jamming, bowling nights and junk trips.
In addition, we place a lot of importance on our participation in pro bono activities. The Pro Bono Committee is represented by people from different parts of the HK office and some of them are Hong Kong trainees. The committee co-ordinates a series of pro bono events and your participation in these activities is highly encouraged.
